芝加哥大学 德州里奥格兰德河谷’s Center for Broadening Participation in Engineering is funded by the NSF’s Broadening Participation in Engineering (BPE) Program Track 4 (奖项# 2217780).
目标
The goal of the Center for Broadening Participation in Engineering is to increase the enrollment, 保留, 和 advancement rates of Hispanic students (especially Latinas) in engineering education, with a larger goal to broaden the participation of Hispanics (especially Latinas) in engineering careers. These increases will strengthen the STEM workforce of the future.
We propose to attain this goal through addressing inequities along the engineering career continuum:
- The social/family system (socio-economic status, 文化的相关性, 家庭支持, 早期接触, 榜样, 等.),
- The education system (capacity building, 学术准备, 课程, 教育学, opportunities for scholarships 和 funding), 和,
- The professionalization system (professional 和 career development, leadership development 和 research, 实习及就业, professional connections/networking, 和指导).

教育
The Center for Broadening Participation in Engineering proposes addressing inequities along the engineering career continuum by educating faculty on best practices in 课程 & 教育学, while providing students with opportunities for scholarships, with funding to attend conferences, 和 with training on how to become advocates for themselves. Through rigorous 学术准备, we seek to build capacity in the engineering workforce of the future.
